A passenger has died and 30 others were injured on board a Singapore Airlines plane that encountered severe turbulence on a flight from London to Singapore.

The pilot declared a medical emergency and landed at Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport at 4:45pm Singapore time. The deceased passenger was a 73-year-old male.

Passengers have recounted scenes of absolute terror when severe turbulence hit their flight, launching people and objects across the cabin. Images have revealed damage caused to the plane's interior, including dislodged ceiling panels and broken overhead bins.
